Program Case Study – University of Houston

The Background

The University of Houston partnered with JMH Consulting to identify top industries and occupations in and around Houston– manufacturing rose to the top. As a result, JMH recommended UH launch a Six Sigma Certificate program. In the fall of 2011, JMH won the bid to partner with UH and in the winter of 2012, the University of Houston’s Lean Six Sigma Green Belt and Black Belt launched.

The Approach

JMH worked with the University of Houston to identify the best format for their department. UH chose a blended format that combined in-class modules with asynchronous online modules. This allowed UH Continuing Studies to begin to explore online classes, while continuing to meet the demand for an in-class offering. It also allowed the department to build their onsite instructor team to meet corporate training demands.

The Results

The University of Houston Continuing Studies department and JMH worked in partnership to make the Six Sigma certificate a success. Within two years, UHCS was offering 5 cohorts on an annual basis – 3 Green Belts and 2 Black Belts.  More than $300,000 is added to the Continuing Studies’ budget just from this program!
